Consultant Interventional Radiologist
Dr. Mohammed Zeki Ahmed is an experienced Vascular and Non-Vascular Interventional Radiologist. To begin with, Dr. Ahmed graduated in 1996 from Mosul College of Medicine in Mosul, Iraq. Following this, he completed two years of surgical training (vascular) at Leeds and Bradford hospitals in the UK. Subsequently, he obtained his MRCS in Surgery in 2005.
Thereafter, Dr. Ahmed undertook his higher specialty training in Radiology at the East Yorkshire Radiology Academy (UK). He successfully obtained a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Radiology in 2010. Following his radiology training, Dr. Ahmed undertook his higher specialty training in Radiology at the East Yorkshire Radiology Academy (UK). He successfully obtained a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Radiology in 2010.
Furthermore, Dr. Ahmed completed a one-year advanced Interventional Radiology fellowship. This prestigious fellowship was at the Royal Free London NHS Trust hospital, specifically at the Centre for Hepato-Pancreatic-Biliary (HPB) Surgery and Liver Transplantation. For five years, Dr. Ahmed worked at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. During this time, he served as a full-time Vascular Interventional Radiologist Consultant at Hull University Hospital. Dr. Ahmed also holds the European Board in Interventional Radiology (EBIR) certification.
Dr. Ahmed possesses a significant distinction: he was one of the first Interventional Radiologists to obtain a HAAD (DOH) Interventional Radiology License in the UAE. Throughout his impressive 19-year career, Dr. Ahmed has gained experience at numerous well-known hospitals in the Gulf region. These include the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH&RC) in KSA, as well as Al Ain Hospital and Tawam Hospital in the UAE.
His extensive experience encompasses a wide range of both emergency and planned (elective) vascular procedures. For example, he has performed embolization to treat trauma and gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding, as well as for general bleeding control. He is also skilled in aortic intervention, peripheral vascular intervention, stenting procedures, fistula work, and the management of dialysis access.
Dr. Ahmed is highly skilled in venous interventions. This includes procedures like IVC filter insertion and the management of acute Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) and Superior Vena Cava (SVC) obstruction syndrome. He also has significant experience in hepatobiliary interventions. These include TIPS procedures, transjugular liver biopsies, and various urological interventional procedures. Additionally, he performs uterine fibroid embolization, scrotal varicocele embolization, and prostate artery embolization. Furthermore, Dr. Ahmed is experienced in vascular access procedures. He expertly performs portacath, PICC line, and Hickman line placements in both children and adults.
As an expert in oncology interventions, Dr. Ahmed offers procedures such as tumor biopsies and ablations. He is also proficient in chemoembolization (TACE) and radioembolization (TARE) for liver cancer. Notably, Dr. Ahmed was the first to perform a TARE procedure in Abu Dhabi.
