Dr. Karim Ahmad Sarhane is an MD, MSc graduate from the American University of Beirut. Following graduation, he completed a research fellowship at Johns Hopkins University (Maryland, USA) in bioengineering and tissue regeneration. He then completed a residency in General Surgery at the University of Toledo (Ohio, USA), which included extensive training in surgical oncology and minimally invasive robotic surgery. He joined Burjeel Royal Hospital in 2022 after spending nearly 10 years in the USA. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Surgery. Dr. Karim is a surgeon-scientist who combines clinical care with scientific research to deliver the best possible outcomes for his patients. He is published in top-ranked bioengineering, material science, and surgery journals. He holds a patent for a novel nanofiber construct that he developed with his colleagues at the Johns Hopkins Institute for Nano Bio Technology and the Johns Hopkins Department of Neuroscience (US Patent # 10500305, December 2019). Another “Device and Innovation” patent with the same group of researchers is in its final stages. Dr. Karim Sarhane is the recipient of many research grants and research awards, including the Best Basic Science Paper at the Johns Hopkins Residents Research Symposium, the Basic Science Research Grant from the American Foundation for Surgery of the Hand, the Research Pilot Grant Prize from the Plastic Surgery Foundation, and a Scholarship Award from the American College of Surgeons. To date, he has authored 50 peer-reviewed articles, 11 book chapters, 48 peer-reviewed abstracts, and has given 29 national presentations. Dr. Karim is recognized by colleagues for his commitment to medicine, superior surgical skills, compassionate care, and innovative mindset. He takes an individualized approach when treating his patients, combining the latest in evidence-based medicine with his expert opinion and his patients’ wishes and goals to provide the best, most up-to-date, and personalized treatment plan.
